Are You Tired of Eating at Loud Restaurants? This App Will Solve That!

Sometimes, we have this mood of avoiding the noise. For instance, if you’re planning to have a deep and valuable conversation with your best friend, or you have a scheduled business meeting, you may want to set the dinner with them on a calm restaurant or café.

While Yelp can give you the list of restaurants with good food, it won’t offer details about how peaceful or noisy the place would be. Luckily, there’s an app for that.

Available for iOS or mobile devices running Apple’s operating system (also available for Android), iHEARu said they will locate places where “you can hear and be heard.”

It is a platform or a crowd-sourcing tool that collects data from users. For beginners, it accepts data using the app’s tools, and collects reviews from users.

In other words, it is like the Yelp but for knowing how noisy or peaceful places would be for a specific time or day. It may not be as sophisticated and popular as Yelp, but it is a good companion for diners who want to avoid the crowd noise.

How the app works

Like Yelp, the app has GPS for locating the places near the user. It collects noise level in two ways.

First, noise can be taken using the app by using the phone’s microphone. Second, it accepts the user’s personal experience, or manual data input. The app’s developers are calling the latter the “what my ears say” method where they can register their individual impressions of the sound level by selecting a spot on a rating scale.

When using the “what my ears say,” users can pick the day and time, and the average rating for the place — whether it is quieter or louder.

When writing the review, users can also add a photo or a video of the place and enter comments.

iHEARu has categories from the get-go, allowing users to jump to bar, café, restaurants and lodging from the dashboard. The app also has a category called Ear Friendly for places that are categorized as quieter.

The app is categorized as health and fitness, and it is free. It requires iOS 8.2 and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It can also run on phones and tablets with Google’s Android operating system.
