Selena Gomez and Marshmello are dropping their brand new single “Wolves.” Fans have been piecing every bit of evidence together to try to figure out what the song is going to be about ever since Gomez announced that she was dropping this single.
Over a year ago, Selena Gomez publicly announced that she would be taking time off from producing music to deal with the effects of Lupus. Lupus is a very complex and often misunderstood disease that occurs when the body’s immune system begins to attack its own tissues and organs.
Though Gomez has released new music this year, such as “Fetish” with Gucci Mane and “Bad Liar,” her fans noticed she was not promoting any of her new music and that she had laid low for part of the summer.
Selena Gomez, just last month, Sept. 14, 2017, posted a touching Instagram photo with a letter to her fans explaining why she had fallen off recently. Gomez explained that she had undergone a kidney transplant to deal with her Lupus and that she was recovering from the operation. “It was what I needed to do for my overall health,” Gomez said in her Instagram post.
I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. “I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you,” said Gomez in her Instagram post. After taking some time off, Gomez is now releasing a new single, “Wolves,” with her friend, Marshmello. And fans believe that this single is going to be the first time Gomez explains her Lupus journey through her music. After all, Lupus in Latin does mean wolf.
Marshmello and Gomez, both have been consistently posting tweets and Instagram posts, getting their fans ready for maybe one of the most iconic songs of the year.

There are many photos of Gomez and Marshmello posted on her Instagram to excite fans of the release of their new single but, one photo of a gloomy Gomez, in particular, is catching the eyes of fans. There is a calming sadness that appears on the face of Gomez, as she glances away from the camera, in a lonely walk through the woods.
The lyrics to “Wolves” were released today on Selena Gomez’s website. “I’ve been running through the jungle. I’ve been crying with the wolves.” The lyrics are extremely deep and tell a story of their own.
Gomez also posted a teaser of the new single on her Instagram today. The video shows Gomez and Marshmello picking flowers and looking over the edge of the balcony as the sound of a slowly played guitar creates an almost bittersweet mood.
Fans believe that the photos Gomez posted on her Instagram, the mood conveyed in the teaser, and the deep, touching lyrics all point to Gomez’s Lupus journey as the message behind the single.
As Gomez and Marshmello continue to hype their collaboration on all social media platforms, their fans are desperately waiting for the release of the new single. They are counting down the minutes until they can finally hear their favorite artist’s new work, after her traumatic year with Lupus.
