Katy Perry Offends Indian Fans with Instagram Post

Katy Perry, who’s usually very perceptive when it comes to her fans, posted a picture on Instagram that has many Indians upset. The picture features Kali, the Hindu goddess of time, creation, and destruction, with several swords in her hands, stepping on the male god shiva. The caption beneath the pictures is “current mood.”

Two days later, the photo has over 264,000 likes, a surprisingly low number for Perry, and thousands of angry comments:

Sumit_rathore101 “@instagram you all white shit people are racist and don’t care about anybody.”

Ranjitha_rajeev “@katyperry respect every religion….dont make fun…..”

Itsrajatsharmaa “@joshy498 @katyperrygods are not to be used as memes..there are countless memes available on insta..”

Other Instagram users defended Perry and said people were taking the picture way too seriously:

Joshy498 “@patel.alina111 Shut the fuck up Lmao its not disrespectful at all. I find it cool.”

Varoooon_ “AAARRGGGGHHHHH!!! PEOPLE GET A FUCKING LIFE!! SHE DIDN’T INSULT ANY GOD OR GODDESS SHE JUST DESCRIBED HER CURRENT MOOD!!! GET A LIFE PEOPLE!!!!”

And some people were just trying to keep the peace:

Achalgambhir “So how was your 4/20 guys? 😇”

The picture is still on Instagram, along with this fun video from one of her photo shoots:
