J.I.D Slays Funkmaster Flex Freestyle on HOT 97

J.I.D has turned heads this year with his intricate flows and unique word play on his debut album The Never Story. He’s known for his affiliation with J. Cole and is the first new artist signed to Dreamville Records since Ari Lennox in 2015.

The Atlanta rapper may just be on his way to blowing up, and he showed us why this week when he stopped by Hot 97 and absolutely stayed the Funkmaster Flex Freestyle. He raps for almost seven minutes over two old-school beats, “Screwball” by F.A.Y.B.A.N and “Who Shot Ya” by Biggie.

J.I.D brings some really serious bars, showing off his arsenal with a combination of different rhyme patterns, rhythm, flows, and all the things you want to see from a young wordsmith. Hopefully he can be an example for youngsters by showing them it’s still cool to actually be nice at rapping in 2017.
