Elton John will co-write the music to the Broadway adaption of 2006 comedy and 2003 book The Devil Wears Prada.
John will write the music and Paul Rudnick of In & Out and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told will write lyrics.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theater is super exciting,” John told Deadline. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”
Writing for musicals is nothing new for John, having composed the music for The Lion King, Aida and Billy Elliot the Musical.
The Devil Wears Prada starred Meryl Streep and and Anne Hathaway, and was the story of a bookish assistant (Hathaway) trying to meet her magazine-editor boss’s (Streep) outlandish expectations. Streep was given a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role.
Casting for the musical has not yet been announced.
