Should You Drink More Coconut Water?

By

Do you ever get bored of drinking plain, ole water to stay hydrated? Have you tried drinking fruit-flavored seltzer water but couldn’t handle all the carbonation (aka bubbles)? Well, coconut water may be the next best solution to keeping you hydrated, especially in these hot summer months.

Coconut water is simply the liquid that is drained from the center of coconuts and then packaged and sold in stores ranging from grocery chains to 7-11.

Some ask if coconut water is more hydrating than water or sports drinks, and researchers have come out to say no. But, it is an alternative if one is not a fan of drinking bottled water, and it’s more likely a better option than drinking sugary sports drinks. There are some researchers who believe the drink can help during pregnancy but do not recommend drinking coconut water as a replacement for other food/specialty drinks.

How about weight-loss benefits? Some say drinking coconut water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach could help boost metabolism, immunity, and reduce bad cholesterol!

However, the greatest benefit to drinking coconut water is for its potassium, which helps the body’s heartbeat, muscle contractions, cholesterol and nerve impulses. There is more potassium in coconut water than in a medium-sized banana.

So if you’re looking for a way to get hydrated and possibly boost your immunity, try drinking coconut water. And for those who may drink too much on a Friday night, this drink could be your next hangover cure!
